It took all the courage I had to go to a writing residency when my son was four (ended up being the end of my marriage two years later) and having that alone time, even in a dinky dorm room, was life changing. I couldn't believe after just a day how much more creative mental energy I had when my mind wasn't bogged down by the constant litany of "to-do's" at home. My number one piece of advice to mothers all the time now is find a way to have some time alone away from the house, even if it's just a weekend, to come back to yourself.
“late night dennys” - for some reason ive been talking about sitting in the smoking section with black coffee and cigarettes for hours a lot lately. Something about my breakup and redistribution of time and reclaiming of who I am, the pieces I gave up in my relationship. This makes me very motivated to plan a solo trip!! 💞💞💞
